Selkirk Pharma

Bernardo Wills served Selkirk Pharma as prime design consultant for their 118,115 sf pharmaceutical manufacturing facility. The facility includes administration areas, laboratory areas, clean room production areas, mechanical spaces, warehousing spaces, and shipping spaces to support the production and distribution of pharmaceutical medications.

The main portion of the facility is configured as a two-story structure with an interstitial mechanical access space. There is also a two-story entry lobby wing and a single-story high bay warehouse and loading dock wing.

The design of the facility combines a number of required functions including a clean room production area that required special access protocols and environmental containment protocols. The exterior envelope of the facility was designed and constructed using insulated metal panels and precast insulated concrete panels. The insulated metal panels provided a barrier cladding system that performed as the weather barrier, thermal envelope as well as the exterior finish material.  The use of the insulated panels allowed for the exterior wall cavities to remain open for electrical and communication conduit while maintaining thermal performance.

There is a single entry for all staff, whether they work in the lab or office, with keyed access to clean spaces throughout the facility. This united entry creates a sense of community and oneness all working toward a common goal. One of our favorite parts of this project is the staff dining and community space on the second floor that looks down on the grand lobby. This space can be used for all-staff meetings and presentations.

The design also included flex space to be finished and utilized as Selkirk Pharma expands according to their future plans. Bernardo Wills provided full architecture, landscape architecture, and interior design services, including a full fixtures and furniture package.
