Breaking Ground on The Arbor: New Independent Living Apartments at Orchard Ridge

In an exciting development for the Coeur d’Alene community, Orchard Ridge, a senior living facility, has broken ground on The Arbor, a new independent living apartment building designed to meet the growing housing needs of older adults. The project represents a significant milestone for both the Orchard Ridge community and the partners involved, including Bernardo Wills Architects, Ginno Construction, and BankCDA.

During the recent groundbreaking ceremony, Orchard Ridge’s Executive Director Ann Johnson expressed the importance of The Arbor for the campus, noting how it aligns with their mission of providing faith-based, loving homes for seniors. “The Arbor will be an extension of the work we already do for the over 230 seniors currently living at Orchard Ridge,” Johnson shared. "The new project will create more jobs, more housing for seniors, and more options for our community as the demand for housing continues."

The new building will include 31 independent living apartments, featuring options for two-bedroom units — a much-needed addition that will allow couples to live together on the same campus, even if one partner requires assisted living or memory care services. “The two-bedroom option at The Arbor will enable couples to live side-by-side, bringing peace of mind to those who want to stay close to their loved ones while receiving the support they need,” Johnson said.

The Arbor project is not just about expanding facilities; it’s about strengthening the community and providing seniors with a supportive environment that fosters connection and care. Mark Grabenstein, a former administrator at Orchard Ridge, highlighted the deeper meaning of the project, describing it as “an act of faith and commitment.” His words reflect the dedication that both Orchard Ridge and its partners share in creating homes that prioritize dignity and compassion for older adults.

The Arbor will join the current Orchard Ridge campus, which already serves 154 low-income seniors in independent living and offers 69 units for assisted living and memory care. The project addresses the pressing need for more senior housing options as the demand continues to rise, especially in communities like Coeur d’Alene, where quality housing for older adults is a priority.

As construction gets underway, the Orchard Ridge community eagerly anticipates the completion of The Arbor, which is expected to provide both a practical and emotional solution for couples, families, and seniors seeking a welcoming place to call home. At Bernardo Wills, we are honored to be part of this transformative project, designing a space that will enrich the lives of many for years to come.

Stay tuned for updates on the progress of The Arbor as we continue to make strides toward creating more homes for Coeur d’Alene’s senior community!
