#ThrowbackThursday Riverwalk Point I

In 1999, Bernardo Wills Architects assisted SNAP (Spokane Neighborhood Action Partners) in the search for and evaluation of potential sites for a multi-family housing project. The resulting project, Riverwalk Point I, is a five-building, 52-unit complex.

The entire project was designed and constructed with sustainability and control of up-front expenses in mind. Operational costs for Riverwalk Point were significantly less than a conventional project because of the overall design considerations (strategic use of natural daylight), appliances, finishes, and windows chosen by designers, and energy conservation education for every new tenant.

This project furthered SNAP’s mission of providing comfortable, affordable housing for our region. This project received several awards: the 2005 HUD Doorknocker Award for Outstanding Achievement in Affordable Housing, the 2003 US Dept. of Energy Power Player Award, and the 2002 Rebuild American Energy Champion Award for Public and Affordable Housing. This set the stage for many multi-family projects in Bernardo Wills’ future.
