East Valley High School Track Repairs Circa 1999

Throughout the 1990’s, Bernardo Wills Architects worked on a series of projects for our local school districts to rehabilitate and renovate their high school athletic facilities. The East Valley High School track was forced to close due to unsafe surface erosion in the inner lanes, driving the school to schedule all their home track meets at neighboring facilities. Bernardo Wills Architects recommended resurfacing the running track and tennis courts (also limited due to unsafe playing conditions). The project transformed their outdated athletic facilities into venues suitable for holding large track and tennis events. A year after Tennis Surface laid the track, a large blister developed in the polyurethane. Bob Wills considered the options and told Tennis Surfaces (based in Chicago) that he could repair the track himself with the right materials. Bob spent his Labor Day weekend 1999 performing the three-day repair process. We are glad to have photographic evidence of the beginning, and end, of his track surfacing career.
