#Throwback Thursday Spokane Central Service Center aka Nelson Service Center

Completed in 2015, the goal of the Spokane Central Service Center (also known as the Nelson Service Center) was to consolidate the City of Spokane’s fleet services, including solid waste collection and fleet maintenance, into one campus.

The main facility is 44,000 square-feet and includes 17 large heavy vehicle maintenance bays, 8 light vehicle maintenance bays, bridge cranes, a welding area, a POL system, and a CNG fueling station area. In addition to the service facility, the center also features 13,600 square-feet of administration space and offices and enough parking for the entire service vehicle fleet. Within the facility, there is a gathering space for over 100 drivers to use daily. The drivers use this gathering space to meet for conferences, trainings, and daily dispatch.

Bernardo Wills provided programming and space planning, architectural, interior design, and landscape architecture services for this project.

The Nelson Service Center won a DBIA National Merit Award for “Excellence in Process” in 2016 and continues to be one of our favorites.
