Combined Sewage Overflow (CSO) Tank - Bernardo Wills Architects Spokane

At the edge of the Spokane River bank, Garco Construction is putting the finishing touches on the urban plaza atop the 2 million gallon Combined Sewage Overflow (CSO) tank. Most Spokanites are familiar with this project because of the traffic revisions by the Downtown Spokane Library. Upon completion in October 2019, the new plaza will feature local art, space for food trucks, and beautiful views of the Monroe Street Bridge, Spokane Falls, and the Spokane River below. Bernardo Wills Architects provided landscape architecture services for the urban plaza design, including planting and irrigation plans, water feature, site furnishings, and assisting with a large art installation. Fun fact: concrete artists carved faux basalt on the side of the tank, offering continuity with the native rock in the river gorge.
