Celebrating Excellence: Highlighting Bernardo Wills’ Impact on Sports Field Design

At Bernardo Wills, we believe in the power of community and the transformative impact that well-designed spaces can have on future generations. Our landscape architects are experts in creating spaces that inspire athletes, enhance performance, and bring people together. Today, we’re thrilled to showcase three of our most recent sports field projects that demonstrate our commitment to excellence, innovation, and collaboration.

West Valley School District, Yakima Schools – Stadium Improvements

Working alongside Design West Architects, Bernardo Wills is delivering a sports facility that will redefine the game-day experience for West Valley School District in Yakima. The new synthetic turf field will be a visual standout, featuring alternating panels of dark and light green, and endzone lettering that pops with contrasting drop shadows on the school’s blue background. More than just aesthetics, the field will sit atop a 20mm shock pad, significantly enhancing safety for both football and soccer players.

But the excitement doesn’t stop there. The all-new eight-lane running track will bring energy and vibrancy to every race, with colors reflecting school pride. Relocated jump pits, expanded event areas, and a larger shot put zone mean that West Valley athletes will have more opportunities to shine in their sports. These stadium improvements are about more than just playing the game—they’re about elevating it.

Ponderay Field of Dreams, City of Ponderay

A project decades in the making, the Ponderay Field of Dreams is finally becoming a reality, and Bernardo Wills is honored to be part of this monumental effort. Construction is underway on a site that will serve North Idaho families for generations to come. The first phase will introduce a series of multi-purpose sports fields, including six U6-U8 and four U11-U12 fields, as well as a full-size soccer field.

Beyond the sports facilities, the Ponderay Field of Dreams will be a hub for the community, with large open spaces, nature trails, and a pavilion for gatherings. A concessions area, restrooms, and office spaces will enhance the site’s functionality, ensuring it’s more than just a sports complex—it’s a community cornerstone. Future phases will add even more amenities, from playgrounds and tennis courts to an indoor field house, creating an all-encompassing sports and recreation destination.

Wenatchee School District, Wenatchee High School – Softball Fields

When it comes to creating premier athletic spaces, the new softball fields at Wenatchee High School are a game-changer. This state-of-the-art facility features a synthetic turf field designed for peak performance. Players will enjoy modern dugouts, a well-appointed press box, and locker rooms that provide comfort and convenience. With bullpens, batting cages, elevated bleachers, and high-quality field lighting, every detail has been meticulously planned to enhance both the athlete and spectator experience.

This project reflects Bernardo Wills' dedication to creating sports venues that are more than just places to play—they’re places to excel. Wenatchee High School’s softball fields are a testament to what’s possible when thoughtful design meets community needs.

A Legacy of Success: More Projects to Celebrate

Our sports field design expertise extends beyond these recent projects. Bernardo Wills’ landscape architects have a long history of excellence in creating top-tier athletic facilities, including our work with the East Valley School District, Union Stadium for Mead School District, and Ridgeline High School for Central Valley School District.

The East Valley School District project brought together Spokane County, the City of Spokane Valley, and the school district itself, creating new playfields, traffic improvements, and more. Our comprehensive master planning for the project ensured that all stakeholders’ needs were met, delivering a lasting impact on the community.

Union Stadium in Mead stands as a beacon of school pride, providing a home-field advantage that didn’t exist before. The new artificial turf field accommodates multiple sports, and adjacent natural grass multi-sport fields ensure versatility. This facility isn’t just about hosting games—it’s about creating memorable experiences for both athletes and fans.

Ridgeline High School’s new performance stadium is another shining example of our commitment to quality and innovation. With artificial turf, natural grass fields, tennis courts, and other outdoor facilities, this 63-acre development sets a new standard for high school sports venues. Our landscape architecture team played a critical role in site planning and design, and we’re proud to have contributed to a project that will benefit the Central Valley School District for years to come.
