#30BestofBWA Child Development Center, Fairchild Air Force Base. This project hit many “firsts” for Bernardo Wills Architects: The first project at Fairchild Air Force Base, first design-build project, first design competition win, first national design award (1996 Air Mobility Command Design Award), and the first free-form acrylic sculpture that Bob Wills fabricated in his kitchen.The project goals were to create a safe, secure, healthy place where up to 300 children would be happy, nurtured, and stimulated. The design had to be single-story and reflect a residential character. Included were full site work, utilities, landscaping, playground design, and comprehensive interior design.
