#30BestOfBWA Completed in 2015, the Global Scholars Hall Phase II is a signature student residence for Washington State University. This design-build project is a five-story dormitory, with associated common areas and decks, and dedicated community and commercial ground-floor spaces. Four levels containing 133 dwelling units of varying types—totaling 276 beds—are over a second-level podium. On the fifth floor, a unique series of seven “apartment-style” units along a single-loaded corridor features outdoor decks with views to the courtyard below. The team developed a phased site logistics plan to illustrate how construction materials and equipment were to be staged, key access and egress points, and how construction activities would be conducted to mitigate the impact on the student population. Bernardo Wills Architects provided the full suite of services on this project, including landscape and interior design in addition to architectural design.
