Union Stadium in Mead, WA

In 2017, as the first step in the District's bond efforts, the Bernardo Wills Architects landscape architecture team was retained to assist Mead School District in preparing a 27-acre master plan for the redevelopment of existing natural grass sports fields, a transportation/refueling facility, and a maintenance and operations facility. Of primary importance was a new stadium that featured an artificial turf field as both a practice and performance venue for performing arts and athletics.

Mead had no home field venue and played all of their games at Joe Albi Stadium in Spokane, and Union Stadium will be shared by Mt. Spokane and Mead High Schools as their home field. With the passage of the bond, Bernardo Wills Architects was selected as the site/landscape architecture consultant to assist ALSC Architects. The new lighted artificial turf field is sized and striped to accommodate football, soccer, and lacrosse, and stadium and grandstand seating will accommodate 4,500 spectators. A new field house, restrooms, concessions, and three sand-based natural grass multi-sport fields are adjacent to the stadium. Parking to support the stadium will accommodate approximately 300 vehicles.
