Holiday Giving: Transitions

Today we shine a spotlight on Transitions. Transitions’ mission is to end poverty and homelessness for women and children in Spokane. Did you know that 70% of people living in poverty in the United States are women and children? Transitions is out to change that statistic in our community. Through their many programs, they support women in children in whatever stage they are in. From the Women’s Hearth, a safe drop-in space for women experiencing poverty, trauma, or homelessness, to the New Leaf Kitchen and Cafe that provides foodservice job training. Chuck Horgan, AIA, serves on two Transitions committees, “Transitions’ mission fills an all too large need in our community. It constantly amazes me how much Transitions can do, for so many, leveraging limited and competitive resources.I volunteer on the Facilities Committee to be able to use my professional experience and contacts to assist Transitions with keeping their buildings in the condition necessary to fulfill their mission. I also serve on their Golf Tournament committee that provides planning support for one of their yearly fundraisers. 2020 was a difficult year for many non-profits that use large events to fund their programs, so I am very pleased that we are able to give this year.”Or select Transitional Programs for Women at smile.amazon.com to benefit them while you shop.Bernardo Wills Architects’ mission is to make our communities better through our work. We thank Transitions for the huge difference they make for our neighbors, improving lives, and empowering women.
