Excelsior Wellness Envisions a New Mentorship Community in Spokane

At Bernardo Wills, we believe in the power of spaces to foster growth, support, and connection. This commitment is central to our partnership with Excelsior Wellness on their newest project—a multi-generational community campus on Northwest Boulevard in Spokane. Our team recently attended the Excelsior Wellness Partnership Luncheon, where we celebrated the vision and progress of this inspiring project alongside community partners, with great food, warm conversations, and shared excitement for what lies ahead.

Excelsior Wellness’ future campus will offer a supportive and empowering environment specifically for elders and young adults in transition. This mentorship-centered model will allow residents over 55 to guide and support young adults between the ages of 18 and 24, building a community where mentorship flourishes. Through this approach, Excelsior aims to address the unique vulnerabilities of both age groups while fostering growth, resilience, and mutual understanding.

The campus will include 40 units within a four-story, walk-up apartment complex, with every detail of the architecture aimed at promoting community. Outdoor activity areas and a rooftop patio overlooking the Spokane River are at the heart of this vision. These gathering spaces align with Excelsior’s focus on community integration and are designed to encourage interaction and social connection among residents. The neighborhood, which boasts access to nearby trails, a local park, and Spokane Falls Community College, further enhances the sense of belonging and opportunity for community members.

In addition to the mentorship apartments, Excelsior Wellness is preparing to launch Gildred’s Garage, a vocational training center nearby that will introduce youth to electric vehicle technology and workforce development. Named after philanthropist and U.S. ambassador Ted Gildred, this center is another example of Excelsior’s commitment to growth and opportunity for Spokane’s youth.

Bernardo Wills is proud to provide full architectural services for this impactful project, from pre-design and site analysis through construction administration. Collaborating on such a forward-thinking initiative that supports intergenerational mentorship and workforce development aligns deeply with our firm’s values, and we are excited to see this vision come to life in Spokane.
