In 2017, as the first step in the District’s bond efforts, the Bernardo Wills Architects landscape architecture team was retained to assist Mead School District in preparing a 27-acre master plan for the redevelopment of existing natural grass sports fields, a transportation/refueling facility, and a maintenance and operations facility.
#ThrowbackThursday Due to Spokane’s weather and poorly-draining natural turf field’s condition, Spokane Falls Community College’s infield was only for use about half the year and was not conducive for soccer play. Bernardo Wills Architects was tasked with replacing the natural grass field with a multi-use synthetic turf system. The project also included the installation of an irrigation system to cool and wash the synthetic field, and minor patch and repair work of the synthetic surfacing of the running track and field events. With these improvements, teams can utilize the field for practice and competition throughout the year in safe conditions, and more athletes will benefit from the play surface.
