#ThrowbackThursday 30 years ago, Bob Wills and Gary Bernardo founded their firm in an eight-by-ten foot space in the Tomlinson Black Building in Downtown Spokane. Here’s an image from the vault – Gary, Bob, and Bob Wills Sr. building the first conference room table in Bob’s garage. Never despise humble beginnings, it may be just the start of something good. #BWA30Years
Many of our operations & maintenance facility projects require a mix of traditional shop and maintenance facilities, as well as administrative office space. In the Whitworth Water District Office and Maintenance Facility, the owner and designers considered how the floor plan and materials chosen would help to marry the two departments. They needed a space where each driver could come in to get assignments, meet as a large group, while (hopefully) not tracking in dirt and debris from their job sites. In addition, access to a shared break and kitchen space allowed for all staff to share meals together. Choosing materials that conform well to shop and office space applications is extremely important, and we know we’ve done our jobs correctly if it all goes unnoticed.
#ThrowbackThursday In January 2017, Bernardo Wills Architects was awarded the WSDOT North Central Region Administration Facility in Wenatchee with Garco Construction. The 30,000-square-foot, two-story North Central Region Administration Facility replaces and consolidates several Department of Transportation facilities in the area to centralize functions and improve efficiency. To address one of the project’s goals – attracting new talent – the facility features a mobile office concept with open offices to maximize staff collaboration and comfort. The new facility houses executive and management private offices; open office areas; staff support space; conference rooms; break rooms; project engineering offices with locker storage and showers; and mechanical, electrical, and communication rooms. Bernardo Wills Architects also provided interior design services for this project.
The Bernardo Wills Architects interior design team is a key part of the early design development of our projects. This rendering shows how early sketches can further the development of the floor plan and building aesthetic while aiding the client in the visualization of the finished product.
#ThrowbackThursday Completed in 2017, Numerica Credit Union’s headquarter expansion project is a fantastic example of the importance of our in-house interior design team. As Numerica Credit Union’s business services division grew, they knew additional space was required for further growth. The 18,000 square foot expansion revitalized previously unused space to house the new business services and home loan center offices. It included 20 offices, 20 open-concept work areas, three conference rooms, and business client waiting areas. The final product reflected the Numerica Credit Union brand values and created a functional and creative workspace for their employees. Contractor: Leone & Keeble.
The CHAS South Hill branch, completed in 2018, is a great example of how finishes and lighting can work together for a clean, soothing environment.
#ThrowbackThursday: Completed in 2019, the remodel of the Mid-Columbia Libraries West Richland branch created a modern, well-organized, light-filled environment that appeals to all ages. The main focus included incorporating a little-used large meeting room into the main branch area and updating the spaces, finishes, and colors to promote Mid-Columbia Libraries’ current objectives and branding. A new story-time area was included, as well as an improved children’s collection and opportunities to display public art. Room for additional shelving allowed for an increased collection with thousands of new items. The bright, cheerful space was tailored for the library’s needs now and will serve readers well in the years to come.
#ThrowbackThursday to our first company rafting trip in 2015. Since then, our trip has grown to include every family in the office, with 2019’s trip growing to 80 people camping together for two nights. We have greatly missed our big team-building event this year, but know there will be much to celebrate when we emerge from the challenges brought by COVID-19. Go, Team!
When the existing on-campus facility for the Jesuit Community at Gonzaga University was reaching the end of useful services, the University opted to build a new facility, rather than remodel.
